I always liked playing in the dirt and I'm still not afraid to get dirty. I took my first classes at Pasadena City College, where Philip Cornelius and John Jacobs ran a terrific program. Later, I was at Cal State University, Northridge for a degree in broadcasting, subsequently working as a radio producer for the rest of the 90‘s. I kept my hands in clay by renting space at the Clayhouse studio in Santa Monica.
In Spring 2000, I was in class in Pasadena again with Cornelius. Fast forward to 2003, while finishing up my teaching credential I made time for another class, this time at Cal Sate Dominguez Hills under the guidance of Jim Keville. It wasn’t long until I was helping out in the studio as a lab tech, mixing glazes, firing kilns, and having a blast.
After completing my Master’s Degree in Educational Technology I discovered that one more class would allow me to teach at the high school level, so I spent a semester with Tony Marsh at Cal State Long Beach. I was lucky to be there, I met some terrific BFA and MFA students, and Tony is an amazing teacher and artist. Since the summer of 2007 I've been teaching Beginning and Advanced Ceramics at Crescenta Valley High School.
In 2013, I returned to CSU Dominguez Hills as an adjunct faculty member. I sometimes teach Ceramics 1 or Ceramics 2 and 3 . That’s been another great venture in the world of Ceramics Education.
I continue to count my blessings... I get to play in the dirt for a living!
Coming up very soon...
